Indie Comic Preview - Going to the Chapel [2019] #3

Life's been a little hectic lately, and as a result, my 'preview' for the third issue of Going to the Chapel is a bit of a misnomer as it is getting posted a few days after everyone could get their hands on the new installment (on November 6).

The third chapter in this romance/action/comedy/heist mashup provides additional context as to Emily's frame of mind during the whole mess before proceeding to take multiple twists and turns. I almost feel like I can't say much more without spoiling anything (which I've never been a fan of doing).  I know that's a bit contradictory for a 'preview' but if I tell you what happens, then why would you go out and read it?

Honestly though, if the following preview image doesn't make you want to read this book, I don't know what will:

Just know that Grandma Harriett has been the low key MVP of the series so far, an unexpected source of bad-assery on top of comedic relief. 

David Pepose balances the comedy, action, and pacing with which the reader is fed contextual information and Gavin Guidry's pencils fit the tone of the book perfectly.  Elizabeth Kramer's colors give off a muted, matte look that epitomizes the small desert town setting of the book and Ariana Maher's lettering helps to provide a quick and easy reading experience. 

There's one issue left in the series, which is due out mid-December.  It's been a thoroughly entertaining read so far.  One that I both recommend and look forward to finishing next month! 


*Prior David Pepose work reading update: I have now read both volumes of Spencer & Locke and really enjoyed them.  Both were much darker than I had anticipated, but are nice, adult analogs for Calvin and Hobbes.  I'll definitely be in for checking out the upcoming Spencer & Locke 3.

Review - Mama

Mama (2013), PG-13, 100 minutes - Jessica Chastain is ruling the box office right now, starring in the two top grossing movies in theaters this past week.  One is Zero Dark Thirty (for which she earned an Oscar nomination for Best Actress), and the other is this little horror film based right here in Virginia (it had a $15 million budget and made over $32 million over its first week). Mama begins in tragedy just after the beginning of the financial collapse in 2008, a man named Jeffrey (Nikolaj Costar-Waldau) murders a co-worker and his estranged wife before taking his two daughters (three year old Victoria and one year old Lilly) and fleeing town.  Driving too fast on snow covered roads, he loses control and they slide off the side of a mountain road and crash in the woods.  The three of them survive the wreck and come across an abandoned cabin after fleeing the scene.  Once he's started a fire, Jeffrey breaks down in another room.  After regaining some composure, he comes
