Doctor Strange Oversize Hardcover Vol. 1 - Collecting Doctor Strange (2015) #1-10, and Doctor Strange: The Last Days of Magic (2016) #1 When Marvel first announced that Jason Aaron and Chris Bachalo were going to be launching a Doctor Strange book as part of their All-New All Different initiative, I was very excited.  At the time I hadn't read much Doctor Strange, but I had enjoyed everything else I had read from Aaron and Bachalo's style just seemed like it would be a perfect fit for a title revolving around the Sorcerer Supreme.  Having since read up on some of Doctor Strange's original/classic adventures, I feel pretty safe in saying that there may not have been a better modern creative team to launch Stephen Strange's first ongoing series in almost twenty years.   Issue #1 (Cover Image: Bachalo) The title of the first issue is "The Way of the Weird" and it certainly lives up to that description.  After an opening page that brings us up t...

Collected Comic Review - Doctor Strange: Into Shamballa

Doctor Strange: Into Shamballa - Marvel Graphic Novel (1982) #23 Prior to last fall, I really hadn't read much Doctor Strange (just Roger Stern and Mike Mignola's Doctor Strange and Doctor Doom: Triumph and Torment, Brian K. Vaughan and Marcos Martin's Doctor Strange: The Oath, and the recently finished Jason Aaron/Chris Bachalo run on the title).  I thoroughly enjoyed all of those, and as more collected material was released leading up to last November's film, I found myself picking up and reading more and more of the Sorcerer Supreme's adventures.  The one story that was always given overwhelming praise was Into Shamballa.  The only problem being that it was an OGN (original graphic novel) from the Marvel Graphic Novel line of the early 1980's that has never been reprinted.  I scoured the web, never feeling comfortable dropping the kind of cash being asked for the available copies I came across.  As a result, Into Shamballa took up residence on the 'in...

Review - Doctor Strange (IMAX 3D)

Doctor Strange (2016), PG-13, 115 minutes - It's been over six months since my last post here on the blog.  At the time I had little notion as to just how much free time a part time job on the side would take up.  I won't bore you with specifics, but I am no longer working two jobs.   Hopefully, this will allow me to get back to somewhat regular blog updates (around catching up on the good old 'honey do' list of course).  Before I get to my thoughts on Doctor Strange, I would like to say that I am very fortunate and thankful to have been put in the position that I have been, allowing me to no longer have to work the second job.  I also have much greater respect and appreciation for those who juggle multiple jobs, whether that be out of necessity or by choice. Last Saturday was my last day on the second job, so Sunday morning I wasted little time in making my way to a theater to see the recently released Doctor Strange, which is a film that I've been pretty ...

Just in case last weekend's Top 10 of 2015 post wasn't enough list-making fun for you, here's the second of my annual lists for your perusal before we get into the bulk of 2016's theatrical releases! My list is compiled of films that have already been announced.  It never fails that shortly after I post my list, I become aware of something else that would make the cut, but since I'm already a week or two behind getting this posted, I won't delay any longer.  Anyway, let's get to it.  The films that I'm looking forward to the most in 2016 are: Honorable Mention (in alphabetical order): Batman v Superman: Dawn of Justice (March 25) , The Divergent Series: Allegiant (March 18) , Hail, Caesar! (February 5) , Inferno (October 14) , Kung Fu Panda 3 (January 29) , Passengers (December 21) , The Secret Life of Pets (July 8) , Star Trek Beyond (July 22) , Teenage Mutant Ninja Turtles: Out of the Shadows (June 3) , Warcraft (June 10) ,  X-Men: Apocalypse (...
